Liturgy

The liturgy and Order of the Mass for CACINA Catholics  closely follows the English version of the Novus Ordo of the Roman Missal.

However, CACINA observes a small number of minor variations from the order  and liturgy of the Roman Church.  These changes are described below:

  • The Confiteor is usually said during the Penitential Rite at each Mass and a general absolution is granted to contrite penitents.

  • The Sign of Peace follows the Prayer of the Faithful, rather than after the Lord's Prayer.  The rite was moved to its current position to emphasize the unity of the congregation before the Liturgy of the Eucharist is begun.  Its place here, also, allows the congregation to maintain a sacred and holy atmosphere throughout the Communion Rite.

  • There are minor differences in the recitation of the Nicene Creed. CACINA observes inclusive wording whenever possible.  Therefore, we say "For us and for our salvation, rather than "for us men and for our salvation.  We also recite the Creed without the filoque clause as it was recited prior to 447 A.D.   We say "...We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and the Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father.  With the Father and the Son He is worshiped and glorified..."
